Hey Blokes! I know it's been awhile. What with crazy professors and an insane academic system trying to screw me over at every turn, life's been a rollercoaster. Remember I asked you fellers for snaps of school? Well, someone finally responded. Here's a taste of what Montfort looked like in the days of yore before Fuse architecturally overturned the infrastructure, cut down the trees, leveled the mountains and made it a concrete jungle.
Far view of the chapel... This chapels so rich in history. So many thousands of Montfort boys and their stunning confessions of wanking and fantasizing, so many prayers of getting shy girls...
Brother's parlour. This is where they ate. Glorious food these brothers had. Once, when I was in infirmary, we got served parlour food. Excellent shite. N though the building looks deceptively simple and benign, lotsa torture took place inside.
The entrance to Princi's office. It's doubtful the chap going in will make it out alive.
The passage leading to the Hall/Badminton Court. This is where most of us wrote our entrance examination to Montfort, as well as our boards. From what I hear, Princi's demolished it to make way for some shrine to his excellence...erm, indoor stadium...
I can't quite place this area. It looks like...hmm...no...I aint got the slightest idea really. Identify the place in this photo and win World of Warcraft points.

this is kannan from the batch of 92.. the building used to be the old 8 and 9th dorm...below it was the refectory...guess the refectory got changed into gym... i am not sure what happened to the dorm.. it was a nice old building with the passage going up to the back enterance of the dorm..
just below the passage are the old volley ball courts and the old bog's..people used to hide in the bog's during the warm up in the evenings...Bro oorvasi(devassy) used to knock on each bog's door to find out if anyone was hiding...that's the story guys..
Hey Slajan.
Sure could use some pictures man.Send em to kuriantp@gmail.com
Good to know that you folks like the blog. Long as you keep commenting and adding in bits of your own, I'll keep writing.
Tp, I commend you on your frank and unbiased views that you share with us on this one of a kind blog. I liken you to the J K Rowling of the world and life that is Montfort school to all us fellow Montfortians. You sure have the guts and audacity to stand up and speak your mind, something that I am sure will garner you a lot of respect among your fellow peers and am sure will attract a lot of attention of a different kind as well.
Montfort school has changed for sure, for better or for the worse… well we all have our opinion to voice on that subject don’t we?
Correct me if I am wrong, doesn’t every Principle who serves at Montfort School have a stipulated term to serve within? (Sort of like the US Presidency where each elected President cannot serve for more than two consecutive terms.) How come then, has Fuse (By the way, who in the world came up with that name? It’s brilliant!) been able to stay in office as acting principle for God only knows… long enough to completely bastardize the founding principles that the school was originally built on and completely ruin the whole Montfortian way of life. Fuse could probably start a consultancy firm for US Presidents who wish to amend the Twenty-second Amendment in the US Constitution to enable them to stay on as Presidents forever.
That aside, I completely deplore what he has done to Charmettes. What on Earth was he thinking of when he envisioned the nightmare that he has created? This is what happens when a megalomaniacal person like Fuse is allowed to run rife. I presume he doesn’t answer to anyone anymore and has assumed an absolute dictatorial role in all affairs pertaining to the school. Well, I have come to assume that he does not have to answer to anyone anymore as he has also successfully managed or so I hear, to take the school to a completely new level. He has been completely ruthless during this process and has not stopped along the way to heed the advice of any Old Boy or former Faculty Member. Thus he has done what seems to be right to him (You can just about question the sanity of a person who decides to place metal spikes* on the drive way curbs at the entrance of the school) and he cares less if that has offended the likes of us.
The School would have been a better place today if it were to have retained its old charm while still morphing to meet the current times, but a school like Montfort never had to change to begin with and that is where Fuse has made his greatest blunder – He has ventured to change and fix what was already one of the best institutions in existence. The current system that the school is run on is a travesty of its old self, hopefully all is not lost. The school will most certainly recover once his reign comes to an end… or that’s the least we can all wish for.
Adieu.
* Metal Spikes - Welded / Bolted to drive way curbs at the main entrance gate to the school. These spikes highlight Fuse's Medieval instincts to protect "his castle", sole purpose to impale and deflate anyone’s ego that threatens to be bigger than his own.
unluckily montfort principals are not limited by office tenures...for all you know Fuse might rule the roost till he buys the farm. fingers crossed, hopin his ego will inflate his head so much it explodes.
This is Jagannath, Class 1965.I was in this dorm for a few years.Far as I know upto 1965 this ramp was on 5th field with the refectory below it.The demolished area on the left was Nat Terry's Gym and next to it was the Shower area.
Very interesting pictures.
Nice blog -- and reminds me of good old Montforts where I studied back in the 1960s. That was the staircase leading up to the senior dorm above the main refectory.
The demolished section in this photo actually housed the boxing room, where Tigen Nat Terry used to coach boys for the annual boxing competition. The bathing room (and pig slaughter room) was next to this. When horses where first brought to school, they were housed here as well.
sorry...that was Tiger Nat Terry who coached boys on boxing!
On the last pic: I had lived in that dorm for a year, STD VIII 1989-90. The warden was Bro. Pushparaj (later married), a mild person, but not without ability to cause you grief. I loved this dorm for its overall aesthetics, especially the wooden floors. Lighting was excellent. Plenty of lattice windows. I loved the view from the washing balcony looking into the assembly area outside the refectory and canteen which used to be the prime social-space in Montfort until the 1990s. The wind-in-the-pine-trees sound was very audible here. Principal Bro. Joseph Louis used to tell us that this dorm was called Montfort's "5-star dorm". The dorm had two entries. The one pictured is the steep entry near the volley-ball courts that was for use after games/movies-at-Mayfield/bath/daytime-bogs. The main entry was from the Parlour side. This dorm also had a few tiny, yet cozy toilets for after the lights went out. The "public bogs" accessed via the steep incline seen here was unique for its antiquated plumbing: Sorta' like railway toilets except the cac' fell into a common channel and you could see upstream cac' flushing-by below (the trauma of [or disgust for] which might explain the demand for bogs-porn as reported)! The dorm was still in operation the last time I checked in Jan 2008, with a few tasteless modifications though.
And here is a blog on Nathaniel (Nat) Simon Terry - http://parayilat.blogspot.com/2007/10/boxing-tiger-nat-terry-champion-and.html

Everybody is badmouthing GKJ.I agree some of his stuff are out of way, but nobody seems to have mentioned Kombathooki project.Thousands of Children would be thanking him for what he has done.Surely, there are many other stake holders(like us,holding Fete and camps there) but it was his initiative
